Full house for space science

Three newcomers and two spacecraft make a full house in space. The population of the International Space Station rose to nine last week while European science focused on bone loss, time perception and routine maintenance.

Students and educators share ideas at SSEA

Last week over 120 students, young professionals, lecturers and teachers gathered at the University of Leicester’s Stamford Court for the third edition of the Symposium on Space Educational Activities. The three-day event was a whirlwind of learning and sharing, with presentations, round table discussions, demonstrations and visits, all on the topic of Space Educational Activities.

How ESA helps connect industry and spark 5G innovation

Connecting people and machines to everything, everywhere and at all times through 5G networks promises to transform society. People will be able to access information and services developed to meet their immediate needs but, for this to happen seamlessly, satellite networks are needed alongside terrestrial ones.

The European Space Agency is working with companies keen to develop and use space-enabled seamless 5G connectivity to develop ubiquitous services. At the UK Space Conference, held from 24 to 26 September in Newport, ESA is showcasing its work with several British-based companies, supported by the UK Space Agency.

A year trapped in Arctic ice for climate science

As millions of people around the world marched for urgent action on climate change ahead of this week’s UN Climate Action Summit, an icebreaker set sail from Norway to spend a year drifting in the Arctic sea ice. This extraordinary expedition is set to make a step change in climate science – and ESA is contributing with a range of experiments.
